What is so good about motivation? “Motivation is the desire to act in service of a goal. It’s the crucial element in setting and attaining our objectives”. – Psychology Today
Firstly a BIG thank you to those who attended the Motivation Workshop on Saturday. It was an absolute pleasure working with you!
Here is a sneak peek of what we got up to…
Motivation: A reason/s for acting or behaving in a particular way. Psychology Today explains: Motivation is one of the driving forces behind human behaviour. It fuels competition and sparks social connections. Its absence can lead to mental illnesses such as depression. Motivation encompasses the desire to continue striving toward meaning, purpose, and a life worth living.
What will happen if we don’t change?
Every decision we make has consequences! Believe it or not, a decision not to change is still a decision. When I first heard this statement, I was in shock! After the shock wore off, I have to say it did help me get started with setting some goals because regardless of how hard the change was, I wanted something different.
Why should we change?
A place to start is what is in it for me or those I care about? I don’t know about you, but I like rewards, especially if they require hard work and sacrifice. Looking ahead and picturing the results and outcomes we can achieve from making those changes can help keep us on track when we feel like throwing in the towel. Casting vision is critical because we are less than likely to achieve it without it if we can’t picture it!
What are our blockages?
Blockages come in all shapes and sizes. As a counsellor, I have the privilege of coming alongside people and discovering what these blockages are. These blockages can hinder our progress and achieving our goals; they can even get in the way of our relationships. To name a few, they can be mindsets, low self-esteem, past failures, toxic relationships and unhealthy family rules or patterns.
I leave you with this… “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily”. – Zig Ziglar.
I wish you all the best for the upcoming week. Until next time C
