Are you an Investor? I’m not talking about money! Money is not the only currency that we invest; I’m talking time. Time, unlike money, cannot be recovered or held on to. Time is precious, and no one is sure of how much of it we have. The way we choose how we use our time affects our commitments, future, ourselves and those we are in a relationship with. Our choices either make our days productive or counterproductive, causing satisfaction or regret. The choice is ours!
Time puts us all on an equal playing ground because we all have the same 24 hours in a day. Even though everyone has the same number of hours in their day, not everyone spends them the same. It’s about knowing what is most important to us and what we cannot afford to lose, for example, relationships, health and wellbeing, to name a few. So, are you investing your time on things that will give you a worthwhile return?
I wonder if the key here is prioritising. Healthy relationships don’t just happen on their own; neither does our well-being and so on. We need to be intentional. What does intentional look like? It starts with a goal, is followed by a plan and continues with action. Otherwise, we only have a wish which remains a possibility with no results. Here are some things that we can do to create margin in our day:
- Make a list of what matters most and put it where you can see it daily
- Don’t over commit to activities that are not important
- Learn to say “No” when you know it’s the right thing to do
- Schedule time for what’s most important
I leave you with this quote “What comes first, the compass or the clock? Before one can truly manage time (the clock), it is important to know where you are going, what your priorities and goals are, in which direction you are headed (the compass). Where you are headed is more important than how fast you are going. Rather than always focusing on what’s urgent, learn to focus on what is important. “– Author Unknown.
I want to dedicate this Blog to my sweet Aunt, whom I have heard much about. Her days were not as long as some, but her legacy lives on through her children and those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life has taught me that love and time are indeed precious gifts, and when invested well, they never return void. May you all have a great week and until next time. C
